"Fiesta del Sol," one of the largest Latino festivals in the USA, began in 1972 as a block party. Originally concieved of as a fund-raising event by the Pilsen Neighbors Community Council, which focuses on grassroots issues such as education, healthcare, housing and immigrant civil rights, it is now a full-bodied celebration of roots, achievement, and Hispanic pride.
