USA "Hunger In The Alisal, Salinas" Jay Dunn 59 images Created 10 Nov 2013

"Hunger In The Alisal" was created in May 2013 as an interactive audio slideshow about hunger in east Salinas, California. The images in this gallery are only part of the story. >> You can WATCH "Hunger In The Alisal" in HD on Vimeo at https://vimeo.com/66364587 or LISTEN to the soundtrack on Soundcloud http://bit.ly/HOT2tg << STORY PRECIS: The Alisal, a working-class community annexed to the city of Salinas, CA in 1963, often seems a world apart, with socioeconomic difficulties all its own - substandard housing, persistent poverty, and unsafe streets. Migrant farm workers, the engine of farming in the area, make up much of the population of east Salinas. They face unique challenges raising their families, yet are aided by an energetic coalition of civic organizations, non-profits, educators and volunteers determined that no one should go without food in the midst of California’s agricultural wealth.
