As the county seat and largest municipality of Monterey County, California, Salinas has always been proud to honor its military veterans. Blessed by temperate weather, the area was once home to Fort Ord, a former United States Army post on Monterey Bay. Salinas and neighboring cities have a number of VFW posts, a Veteran Support Center, and the Monterey County Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Veterans are remembered with somber ceremonies here and across the city on Memorial Day, and the spirit of their service honored in a Veteran’s Day parade of growing size and importance.
