In a welcome scene near the Maya Theater in Oldtown Salinas on Saturday night, an energetic crowd of young music fans jammed the Pica Fresh Mex restaurant for a five-band show. Metal headliners Vianna from Salinas brought together like-minded Asterion and A Breed Extinct, also from Salinas, adding Windows of Lucidity from Monterey and duo Monroe & Julia to the mix. Well aware of the dearth of approved performance spaces in the city, organizers were scrupulous about maintaining a low profile, and through social media drew fans whose responsible attitude toward the community contributed to the success of the all-ages show.
